Bybit Review 2026: World's second-largest crypto exchange. Best overall for perpetual futures with excellent copy trading and competitive fees.
✅ Quick Verdict
World's second-largest exchange. Best overall choice for perpetual futures traders — excellent UX, industry-leading copy trading, and competitive 0.02% maker fee.
Bybit Exchange Review: The Derivatives Powerhouse That Survived Crypto’s Largest Hack — 650+ Coins, Deep Futures Liquidity, and Battle-Tested Resilience (2026)
Bybit is a derivatives-first exchange that has grown into a full-stack trading platform — supporting 650+ spot cryptocurrencies, 550+ USDT/USDC perpetual contracts with up to 125x leverage, options, margin trading, copy trading, trading bots, Earn products, P2P marketplace, and a Web3 wallet. This Bybit Exchange Review is based on hands-on testing by the AffMiss derivatives team — I created an account, deposited funds, traded spot and futures, tested copy trading and bots, and withdrew funds to evaluate Bybit’s real-world performance.
Founded in 2018 by Ben Zhou (former forex executive), Bybit serves tens of millions of users across 195+ countries. By March 2024, Bybit surpassed Coinbase to become the world’s #2 exchange by trading volume, behind only Binance. In February 2025, Bybit suffered the largest hack in crypto history — approximately $1.5 billion in ETH stolen by North Korea’s Lazarus Group. Bybit’s response was extraordinary: reserves were fully replenished within 72 hours without halting withdrawals, no user lost funds, and subsequent PoR reports showed 100%+ coverage. The exchange has since refocused on core trading, obtained MiCA authorization in Austria (June 2025) for EU operations, and operates from its Dubai headquarters with VARA provisional approval, per CoinBureau, CryptoSlate, CryptoNews, NFTPlazas, CryptoManiaks, CoinSpot, FXEmpire, and TradingToday.
Below, I’ll cover how Bybit performs in practice, what the $1.5B hack means for its safety profile, how fees compare, and which traders benefit most.
How I Tested Bybit
I tested Bybit over a 7-day period in February 2026.
Account Setup: Registration via email took under 2 minutes. KYC (passport + selfie) completed in approximately 8 minutes. KYC level determines withdrawal limits and product access.
Deposits: I deposited 200 USDT via TRC-20 — credited in under 3 minutes, zero fees. Fiat deposits: credit/debit card (EU cards ~1.1%, non-EU 2.7-3.05%), bank transfer, and P2P marketplace (0% platform fee).
Spot Trading: I traded BTC/USDT, ETH/USDT, and SOL/USDT. Maker and taker fees confirmed at 0.10% each for regular users. With MNT fee deduction enabled, spot fees drop 25% to 0.075%. Liquidity on major pairs is excellent — Bybit is consistently #2-3 globally. TradingView charting fully integrated with advanced order types.
Futures Trading — Bybit’s Core Strength: I opened a 20x BTC/USDT perpetual position via limit order. Maker fee confirmed at 0.02%, taker at 0.055%. Both USDT-margined and USDC-margined perpetuals available, plus inverse contracts. 550+ perpetual contracts. Leverage up to 125x on liquid pairs. Order types: limit, market, conditional, trailing stop, post-only. Futures liquidity is deep — Bybit consistently ranks #2-3 in derivatives volume globally.
Options Trading: Bybit offers USDT-settled options (previously also USDC options, discontinued after Feb 2025 refocus). Maker 0.02%, taker 0.03%. Functional but less deep than Deribit or OKX.
Copy Trading: I followed two lead traders on BTC/USDT perpetuals with $50 allocation each. Execution was fast (2-3 seconds). Bybit’s copy trading has grown significantly — it offers curated lead traders with transparent performance metrics, PnL tracking, and adjustable risk settings. More developed than OKX or Binance copy trading, though less extensive than Bitget (190,000+ elite traders).
Unified Trading Account (UTA): Bybit offers a UTA that shares margin across spot, margin, futures, and options. Functional and useful for capital efficiency, though OKX portfolio margin mode is more advanced for cross-product risk netting.
Trading Bots: Grid trading (spot + futures), DCA, and martingale bots available. I tested a BTC/USDT spot grid for 3 days. Functional but less extensive than Gate.io (7+ bot types including arbitrage, CTA Expert) or OKX (11+ types).
Bybit Earn: Flexible savings, locked staking, liquidity mining, dual investment. I deposited 50 USDT into Flexible Savings — APR approximately 3-5% with instant withdrawal. Competitive yields across multiple products.
Web3 Wallet: Bybit Wallet supports Cloud Wallet (keyless, Bybit-hosted), Keyless Wallet (MPC), and Seed Phrase Wallet (full self-custody). Cross-chain swaps via Apex Pro DEX ($94B daily volume). NFT marketplace was shut down April 2025 and IDO platform discontinued — Bybit is scaling back Web3 features to refocus on core trading, per CryptoNews. Less extensive than OKX Wallet (130+ chains) or Bitget Wallet (60M users).
P2P Marketplace: 0% platform fee with escrow protection. Supports local payment methods across multiple regions.
Withdrawal: I withdrew 100 USDT via TRC-20 — processed in approximately 10 minutes. All crypto deposits are free. Withdrawal fees are network-dependent.
Interface: Clean, professional design. Advanced trading dashboard with TradingView charts, depth view, and multi-layout options. The mobile app is excellent and feature-complete. Simple mode available for beginners. Overall UX is comparable to OKX and Binance. Bybit Learn (educational blog) is one of the better exchange-run educational resources.

Bybit Key Features
Derivatives-First Architecture
Bybit was built for derivatives from day one. This DNA shows in every aspect of the platform:
Perpetual Futures: 550+ USDT-margined and USDC-margined perpetual contracts plus inverse perpetuals. Up to 125x leverage. The futures order book on BTC/USDT is consistently among the deepest in crypto — only Binance and occasionally OKX have more depth.
Pre-Market Perpetuals: Trade tokens before spot listing. Maker 0.04%, taker 0.10%.
Options: USDT-settled options with maker 0.02% / taker 0.03%. Note: USDC options and linear expiry futures were discontinued after February 2025 as part of Bybit’s post-hack refocus on core products.
Inverse Contracts: Coin-margined perpetuals and delivery futures for traders who want to hold BTC/ETH as base collateral — popular with long-term holders who want leveraged exposure without converting to stablecoins.
Copy Trading — Bybit’s Growing Strength
Bybit’s copy trading feature has matured significantly. It offers curated lead traders with transparent metrics (ROI, win rate, drawdown, AUM), adjustable position sizing, risk controls (stop-loss per copy), and both futures and spot copy trading. The experience is smooth — execution in 2-3 seconds during my testing. Less extensive than Bitget (190,000+ elite traders, 800,000 followers, 3 copy modes) but more developed than OKX or Binance.
Unified Trading Account (UTA)
Bybit’s UTA shares collateral across spot, margin, perpetuals, and options in a single account. This improves capital efficiency by letting one pool of funds support multiple positions simultaneously. Functional and effective, though OKX portfolio margin mode is more advanced for cross-product risk netting.
Bybit Earn
Flexible savings, locked staking, liquidity mining, dual investment, and SOL liquid staking (~8% APY yielding bbSOL tokens usable across Web3). Wide range of earning products competitive with Binance Earn.
Trading Bots
Grid trading (spot + futures), DCA, martingale, and automated strategies. Functional but less extensive than Gate.io or OKX.
Aurora AI
Bybit has introduced Aurora AI trading suggestions — AI-powered market analysis and trade ideas. Still emerging but signals Bybit’s investment in AI-assisted trading.
World Series of Trading (WSOT)
Bybit’s flagship trading competition with multi-million-dollar prize pools. One of the largest organized crypto trading events globally — builds community engagement and attracts competitive traders.

Bybit Fees and Costs
Trading Fee Structure
| Product | Maker Fee | Taker Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Spot (regular) | 0.10% | 0.10% |

| Futures — USDT perps (regular) | 0.02% | 0.055% |

| Futures (with MNT 10%) | 0.018% | 0.0495% |

| Pre-Market Perps | 0.04% | 0.10% |

VIP tiers: Based on 30-day volume or asset balance. VIP 1 at $1M/month or $250K balance. Top tiers: spot maker 0%, futures maker 0%, futures taker 0.03%.
MNT discount: Enabling MNT (Mantle) fee deduction provides 25% discount on spot fees and 10% on futures fees, stacking with VIP tier discounts, per Bybit Official.
Real example from my test: I bought $500 of ETH/USDT via limit order = $0.50 fee (0.10% maker). With MNT: $0.375. Same trade on OKX = $0.40 (0.08%), Binance = $0.50 (0.10%), MEXC = $0.00 (0% maker).
Futures real example: $2,000 BTC/USDT perpetual via limit order = $0.40 (0.02% maker). Same as Binance and OKX. Via market order: $1.10 (0.055% taker) — slightly higher than Binance (0.05%) or OKX (0.05%). This makes Bybit slightly more expensive for market-order futures traders but identical for limit-order traders.
Fee Comparison vs Competitors
| Feature | Bybit | Binance | OKX | Bitget | MEXC |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spot Maker | 0.10% | 0.10% | 0.08% | 0.10% | 0% |
| Spot Taker | 0.10% | 0.10% | 0.10% | 0.10% | 0% |
| Futures Maker | 0.02% | 0.02% | 0.02% | 0.02% | 0% |
| Futures Taker | 0.055% | 0.05% | 0.05% | 0.06% | 0.03% |
| Token Discount | 25%/10% (MNT) | 25% (BNB) | 40% (OKB) | 20% (BGB) | — |
| Options | ✅ 0.02%/0.03% | ✅ | ✅ 0.02%/0.03% | ❌ | ❌ |
| Copy Trading | Strong | Growing | Growing | #1 (190K+) | Limited |
| UTA | ✅ | ❌ | ✅ (portfolio margin) | ✅ | ❌ |
Bottom line on fees: Bybit’s futures maker fee (0.02%) matches the industry standard. The futures taker fee (0.055%) is slightly above Binance and OKX (both 0.05%) — a meaningful difference for high-frequency market-order traders. Spot fees are standard at 0.10%. The MNT discount (25% spot / 10% futures) helps close the gap.
Bybit Security and Safety
The February 2025 Hack — $1.5 Billion (Largest in Crypto History)
On February 21, 2025, Bybit suffered the largest hack in cryptocurrency history. Approximately $1.5 billion in ETH was stolen during what appeared to be a routine cold-to-warm wallet transfer. The attack was executed by North Korea’s Lazarus Group (FBI attributed), who compromised the user interface of Safe Wallet — a widely used frontend for Ethereum multisig contracts. The attackers altered the smart contract logic of the cold storage, redirecting funds during a multi-signature authorization process, per CoinBureau, CryptoSlate, CryptoNews, FXEmpire, and TradingToday.
Bybit’s Response — Industry-Setting Crisis Management:
- Immediate detection and communication — Bybit identified the breach quickly and published on-chain transaction data
- No withdrawal halt — Unlike most exchanges post-hack, Bybit did not freeze user withdrawals
- 72-hour full recovery — Through bridge loans and OTC transactions, Bybit replenished the entire $1.5 billion in stolen ETH within 72 hours
- No user fund losses — 1:1 reserves maintained throughout
- Subsequent PoR confirmed 100%+ coverage
- Lazarus Bounty program — Community bounty to track stolen funds (~90% still traceable on-chain)
- Nine security audits conducted post-incident
- Strategic refocus — NFT marketplace shut down April 2025, IDO platform discontinued, Web3 features scaled back to concentrate on core trading security
Why this matters: Bybit’s hack recovery is arguably the most impressive crisis response in crypto history. For comparison, when Binance was hacked for $40M in 2019, it suspended withdrawals for a full week. When Mt. Gox was hacked, it went bankrupt. Bybit replenished $1.5 billion in 72 hours without stopping withdrawals — demonstrating financial reserves and operational capability that few exchanges could match.
The trade-off: Despite the recovery, the hack revealed that even “cold” storage with multisig can be compromised through interface manipulation. The attack vector (compromised Safe Wallet UI) was sophisticated and highlighted supply-chain risks in wallet infrastructure. Security-first traders should weigh this incident seriously even though user funds were preserved.
Pre-2025 Security Record
Before the February 2025 hack, Bybit had no confirmed major security breaches since its 2018 launch — a 7-year clean record. Minor incidents included API-related exploits targeting individual users (2019-2020), which were resolved through improved API restrictions.
Current Security Infrastructure
- 99% cold storage — assets stored offline with multisig, TEE (Trusted Execution Environment), and TSS (Threshold Signature Scheme) protections
- Post-hack upgrades — nine security audits, enhanced wallet transfer protocols, UI verification procedures
- 2FA (Google Authenticator, YubiKey hardware keys), passkeys, biometric (mobile), anti-phishing codes
- Secure Transaction Approval — binds confirmations to primary device
- Withdrawal address whitelisting + new-address lock period
- Insurance fund (derivatives-focused, covers trading losses)
- Bug bounty program via HackerOne
- Proof of Reserves — monthly Merkle Tree, Hacken audited (Jan + Aug 2025 reports)

Is Bybit Safe?
Bybit’s safety profile is complex. The positive: 72-hour full recovery of $1.5B without user losses is unprecedented; monthly Hacken-audited PoR; 99% cold storage; 7 years without a prior breach; MiCA licensed; Red Bull F1 sponsorship signals institutional legitimacy. The negative: the $1.5B hack exposed interface-level vulnerabilities in “cold” storage; no insurance on deposits (only derivatives insurance fund); derivatives restricted in multiple jurisdictions; some scaled-back Web3 features suggest resource constraints. Overall, Bybit’s hack response has paradoxically strengthened confidence in its financial reserves, even as the breach itself is a significant negative mark.

Summary: Bybit wins on derivatives depth (550+ perpetuals, inverse contracts), copy trading quality (more curated than Binance/OKX), and the dramatic proof of financial reserves ($1.5B recovery). Binance wins on liquidity, ecosystem breadth, and SAFU fund. Bitget wins on copy trading scale (190K+ elite traders) and zero-breach security record. Choose Bybit for deep derivatives with copy trading and a platform that has battle-tested resilience. Choose Binance for maximum liquidity and ecosystem. Choose Bitget for the largest copy trading marketplace and strongest security record.
Who Should Use Bybit?
Best For
Bybit is ideal if you are a derivatives trader who wants deep liquidity across 550+ perpetual contracts with USDT, USDC, and inverse margining options — Bybit’s futures architecture is among the most comprehensive. If you want copy trading with curated lead traders and transparent performance metrics, Bybit offers a more polished experience than OKX or Binance (though Bitget has more scale). If you value crisis resilience — the $1.5B hack recovery in 72 hours without withdrawal suspension is the most impressive demonstration of financial strength in crypto history. If you need EU-regulated access via MiCA-licensed bybit.eu for spot trading. If you’re a competitive trader, the World Series of Trading (WSOT) and Red Bull F1 partnership create a premium trading community. If you hold BTC or ETH long-term and want leveraged exposure without converting to stablecoins, Bybit’s inverse contracts are purpose-built for this.
Not Ideal For
Bybit is not the best choice if the $1.5B hack is a deal-breaker for you from a trust perspective — Bitget (zero breaches, 7+ years) or Coinbase (NASDAQ-listed) offer cleaner security records. If you are US-based, Bybit is unavailable. If you need the lowest possible fees, MEXC (0% maker) beats everyone. If options are your primary focus, Deribit has far deeper liquidity. If you want the most advanced unified account, OKX portfolio margin mode is more sophisticated. If you need the widest altcoin selection, Gate.io (3,800+) or MEXC (2,700+) offer more. If you want the strongest insurance fund, Binance ($1B+ SAFU) or Bitget ($630M+ Protection Fund) provide larger explicit guarantees. If you want comprehensive Web3 features, Bybit has scaled these back post-hack — OKX (130+ chains) or Bitget (60M wallet users) offer more.
Bybit Exchange Review — Final Verdict
Overall Rating: 4.4/5 (8.6/10)
Bybit is a derivatives powerhouse that earned its #2-3 global ranking through deep futures liquidity, competitive fees, strong copy trading, and a comprehensive product suite. The exchange’s founding DNA as a derivatives-first platform shows in the quality of its perpetual futures experience — 550+ contracts, inverse margining, and consistently deep order books.
From my hands-on testing, Bybit delivered: confirmed 0.10% spot fees (0.075% with MNT), 0.02% futures maker confirmed, deep liquidity on major pairs, fast copy trading execution (2-3 seconds), functional UTA, clean interface, and excellent mobile app. The educational resources (Bybit Learn) and competitive trading (WSOT) add genuine value to the ecosystem.
The defining event in Bybit’s history is the February 2025 $1.5B hack — simultaneously its greatest vulnerability and its greatest proof of strength. The hack exposed that even sophisticated cold storage can be compromised through interface-level supply-chain attacks. But the 72-hour full recovery without halting withdrawals or imposing user losses is an unprecedented demonstration of financial resilience. No other exchange has been tested at this scale and survived this cleanly.
The trade-offs: the 0.055% futures taker fee is slightly above Binance/OKX (0.05%). US, UK, and several major markets are restricted. No explicit deposit insurance. Web3 features are being scaled back. Copy trading, while good, has less scale than Bitget. And the hack itself remains a legitimate concern for security-first traders.
For derivatives traders who want deep liquidity, strong copy trading, and a platform with battle-tested financial resilience, Bybit is an excellent choice.
